Orion's Radio is back online

Well it took some time but the bugs are finally worked out. The streaming servers have been fixed. The address has changed so you will have to update your shortcuts. The new address are fixed in the "Click to Listen" links.

Sorry ... there is still no word on when the streaming servers will be available for me. I figured I would update the post since the other was lost in the hard drive failure. I wish I could give a time frame as to when it will be up and running but ... again .. it was donated and beggars can't be choosers.

I haven't given up. The servers will be available again soon I hope.

Keep trying back, eventually Orion's Radio will be broadcasting again.

Due to a hard drive failure I had to use a June 2010 version of my database. I lost some posts but at least I didn't have to start over from scratch.

The radio station is still offline for now. I now have a bit more work to do even if the streaming servers become available.

I will get the site back up and going as soon as possible. Until then sorry everyone.

It would seem that the technicians got the remote server running again. Hopefully it will be a little more stable and I won't have to restart it every day.

Lately I have had problems with my own server too but not with the streaming. Since the station uses an "auto DJ" program that is supposed to run in windows but I'm running it in Linux (using a windows emulator), it sometimes locks up causing me to stream 'dead air'. I have not been able to track down what causes the random lockups so I am just hoping that future updates to the OS and its components will eventually resolve the problem on its own. Maybe I will look into writing a script to monitor it and restart it if it crashes or I may test restarting the program every 24 hours... not sure which way I will go. Until then, I will try to restart the program as soon as possible when I realize it is locked.

The remote server I am using to stream Orion's Radio has experienced a brain fart.

I don't really know what happened to it but I am in contact with their support and they assure me that they are working on the issue and hope to have it resolved soon.

As soon as I find out that it is back up and running I will restart the stream.

Orion's Web Services has added a remote server to Orion's Radio. The remote server allows 1000 connections. It doesn't seem to be very stable but should allow many more people to enjoy Orion's radio when its working.  I have put in introduction file on the local server to let people know. SHOUTcast changed their player to use a flash one that reconnects to the server every 10 minutes. This issue causes the introduction file on the local server to also repeat. I have contacted SHOUTcast about this problem and it is being worked on but as of now they have no estimated time as to when it will be resolved. If you don't want to hear the introduction file just connect to the remote server. Which brings me to the next addition I made to the Orion's Radio page... I changed the "Click to Listen" link. I added a player that will automatically connect to the remote server but if you don't like the web based player the link also has links to connect to the remote or local servers using your favorite audio program. I just threw the page together so I may decide to change the looks of it. I have also updated the "Radio stats" page to include the remote server.

Due to a mechanical problem the server was down for much longer than anticipated. The power supply failed and I had to wait to purchase another one. Since the server was down for about a month there are many updates I will need to take care of so for the next few days there may be some server down time. I apologize for all the problems I have had over the past few months. I still need to update all my equipment. Please donate if you find the site or radio station interesting.

The server will go down on January 4, 2010 for anywhere from 1 day to 7 days.  The reason for this interruption is because I am moving to a new location. Service may also be interrupted for short periods anytime from now until then due to tearing down and packing up equipment. Once I have settled in and had my utilities transfered I will bring the server back online. Please check back daily. I will try to complete the move as soon as possible

Due to some individuals abusing the radio station using Deutsche Telekom based in Germany, I will be banning anyone using this service. If you would like the ban lifted please contact the webmaster to have your individual IP address lifted (please include your IP address). If you have a dynamic IP address then you will be out of luck. I apologize for this but there is nothing else I can do. These individuals are filing the station and keeping people who want to listen from being able to connect. Like always, it's a few ignorant people... no I'm sorry, ignorant implies that they don't know any better.... it's a few moronic people that screw it up for the rest of us.
